Description

Workplace violence is a serious occupational hazard that can affect employees across all industries and work environments. Creating a safe workplace requires understanding the risks associated with workplace violence and recognizing the responsibilities organizations have to help protect their employees.

Under OSHA’s Standard on Agency Responsibilities, agency heads are required to provide each employee with employment and a workplace that is free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm. OSHA also provides general enforcement guidance for investigating workplace violence incidents resulting from workplace-based events (CPL 02.01.058). Because workplace violence situations can vary significantly, OSHA has not established a specific workplace violence standard, and many organizations develop their own policies and guidance.

This course provides an overview of workplace violence as an occupational hazard, emphasizing that its effects often extend beyond physical injuries and are not typically prevented through the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
