Per OSHA, This “General Industry” compliance course is designed to present detailed information about how the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) may/must be implemented in the workplace, not only to achieve OSHA compliance, but to achieve profitability and survivability in today’s cost-conscious environment. We will introduce attendees to the OSHA standards that govern General Industry, explain how to read and use the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), and provide an overview of compliance programs and procedures that are required for the workplace. Topics covered are intended for all private sector personnel, and those public sector employers who utilize Federal OSHA standards as directed by state requirements.

Who Should Attend:  Entry level general industry workers.

What They Will Learn:  Information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job-related hazards on a job site. The training covers a variety of general industry safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.

OSHA MANDATES SPECIFIC TRAINING AS FOLLOWS:

2 hours – Introduction to OSHA

  • Workers’ rights, employer responsibilities and how to file a complaint
  • Helpful worker safety and health resources
  • Samples of a weekly fatality and 3 catastrophe report, material data safety sheet and the OSHA Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
  • Materials include an Instructor Guide, PowerPoint slides, student handouts, and participatory activities

1 hour – Walking and Working Surfaces, including Fall

1 hour – Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire

1 hour – Electrical

1 hour – Personal Protective Equipment

1 hour – Hazard Communication

2 hours – Of the following topics

  • Hazardous Materials
  • Materials Handling
  • Machine Guarding
  • Introduction to Industrial Hygiene
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Ergonomics
  • Safety and Health Program
  • Fall Protection

1 hour – Other general industry hazards or policies and/or expand on the mandatory topics.

Certification:

Successful completion requires 80% passing score on all quizzes.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a wallet card, documentation to satisfy OSHA.
