Training is completed through a self-paced online learning platform while remaining connected to an MSHA Approved Instructor during scheduled training hours. 

A high-speed internet connection, working webcam, and microphone are required to participate. 

Training Window: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST

MSHA Part 48B Annual Refresher Training 

Surface Employees of Underground Mines

Prerequisite: Completion of MSHA Part 48B New Miner Training

Course Length: Approximately 8 Hours

Delivery Method: Self-Paced Online Training with Live Access to an MSHA Approved Instructor 

 

This MSHA Part 48B Annual Refresher Training course is designed for miners and contractors who work on the surface of underground mining operations. This training is intended for surface employees of underground mines and does not apply to underground miner training requirements. 

Federal regulations require Part 48B miners to complete 8 hours of annual refresher training every 12 months to maintain compliance and reinforce safe work practices. The course reviews critical health and safety topics, updates participants on changes in mining operations and regulations, and reinforces hazard recognition skills to help maintain a safe work environment. 

United Safety Solutions delivers this course through a flexible online learning platform that combines self-paced instruction with live oversight from an MSHA Approved Part 48B Instructor. Participants remain connected through a live audio and video session during scheduled training hours, allowing instructors to answer questions, verify participation, and provide guidance throughout the course.

Live Online Training Requirements 

To participate in this course, students must have: 

  • A reliable high-speed internet connection 
  • A computer or laptop with a functioning webcam and microphone 
  • The ability to remain connected to an MSHA Approved Instructor during scheduled training hours 
  • Availability during the training window of Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM Central Time 

 

Certificate of Completion 

Participants who successfully complete the course and achieve a passing score of 80% or higher on all required assessments will receive an MSHA Form 5000-23 Certificate of Training, documenting completion of the required Part 48B Annual Refresher Training.
