Designed for individuals new to the mining industry, this online MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training course fulfills the federal training requirements for surface miners and surface mining contractors. The program provides the knowledge and practical safety awareness needed to recognize hazards, understand mining operations, and perform assigned duties safely. 

Federal regulations require new miners to complete 24 hours of training within the first 90 days of beginning work. Until the full training requirement has been met, new miners must work under the observation of an experienced miner who can ensure work is being performed safely and in accordance with company procedures. 

Throughout this course, participants will develop an understanding of the mining environment, common workplace hazards, emergency response procedures, safe work practices, and the responsibilities shared by both miners and supervisors in maintaining a safe workplace.

Training Requirements 

MSHA requires new miners to complete the full 24-hour training program within 90 days of beginning employment. If the required training is not completed within the allowable time frame, the training must be restarted to meet compliance requirements. 

Certificate of Completion 

Participants who successfully complete the course and achieve the required passing score on all assessments will receive a certificate of completion documenting their training. This certificate may be used to satisfy applicable MSHA Part 46 training documentation requirements.
