Description

Hazardous materials are commonly used in industries such as construction, manufacturing, transportation, utilities, maintenance, healthcare, and facility operations. These materials may present health, physical, fire, explosion, or environmental hazards if they are not handled properly. 

This course provides employees with a foundational understanding of hazardous materials and the importance of hazard communication in the workplace. Participants will learn how hazard information is communicated through labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), workplace procedures, and employee training programs. 

The training also examines common hazardous material risks, including exposure to flammable, corrosive, toxic, reactive, and compressed substances. Learners will gain a better understanding of safe handling practices, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, storage considerations, and methods used to reduce workplace risk. 

In addition, participants will be introduced to spill containment principles and emergency response procedures. The course reviews how to recognize a release, secure the affected area, follow company procedures, and utilize appropriate containment methods to help prevent the spread of hazardous materials. 

By understanding hazard communication requirements and spill response fundamentals, employees can help protect themselves, their coworkers, company property, and the environment.
