Description
Industrial Ergonomics and Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention
The way a job is performed can have a significant impact on a worker’s long-term health. Repetitive tasks, poor body positioning, heavy lifting, and prolonged periods of force or strain can increase the risk of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries involving muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments, and joints.
Industrial ergonomics focuses on designing work practices, tools, and work environments to better fit the needs and capabilities of employees. Applying ergonomic principles can help reduce physical stress, prevent injuries, and improve overall workplace safety and efficiency.
This training provides employees with the knowledge needed to identify ergonomic risk factors and apply practical solutions to reduce the likelihood of work-related MSK injuries.
In This Course, You Will Learn How To:
- Understand the purpose and importance of workplace ergonomics
- Identify common ergonomic hazards and risk factors
- Recognize the causes and symptoms of musculoskeletal injuries
- Understand how repetitive motions, awkward postures, and excessive force can affect the body
- Apply proper body mechanics and safe work practices
- Identify ways to improve workstation setup, tools, and job tasks to reduce strain
- Recognize the importance of early reporting of discomfort or potential injuries
Common Musculoskeletal Injuries Include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Trigger finger
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Muscle strains and sprains
- Lower back injuries
- Tendon and joint-related disorders
High-Risk Job Areas May Include:
- Manufacturing and production workers
- Warehouse and material handling employees
- Maintenance and repair personnel
- Construction and labor workers
- Transportation and delivery workers
- Emergency responders, including firefighters, EMTs, and law enforcement officers
